President Jacob Zuma has praised his administration for advancing the
cause of women in government and other fields, SABC news reported on
Sunday.
The president said South Africa was currently in the top twenty countries in Africa and the world in terms of the most powerful businesswomen. ![]() Jacob Zuma This showed that women had proved their worth in many fields contributing to the development of the country, he said. But Zuma acknowledged that a lot had still to be done, and that this should also cover poor rural women. Earlier Zuma and IFP president Mangosuthu Buthelezi arrived at the Bhekuzulu Sports Ground in Durban for Women's Day celebrations. The event marks the 53rd anniversary of the historic 1956 march against the apartheid pass laws. Zuma was accompanied by several cabinet ministers, including Arts and Culture Minister Lulu Xingwana, Justice Minister Jeff Radebe and Noluthando Mayende-Sibisi of the Ministry of Women, Children and Peoples with Disability, SABC reported. |
